Facelifts are significant surgeries, and require a significant healing time.  After your facelift surgery, you can expect the following recovery periods.

• For the first 1-3 days you can expect minor bruising and swelling from your surgery.  There will most likely be bruising and swelling, which can sometimes be severe.  Protective bandages should be worn for at least the first day after surgery.  You will be on a liquid diet for a while, as the swelling and pain may make it difficult to chew and swallow.  Pain medication and antibiotics will be prescribed to control discomfort and minimize the likelihood of infection.


• For the first 2 weeks you should avoid any strenuous activities.  You will see some swelling and most likely bruising as well.  These will diminish at a different rate for everyone.  Some people will look good enough to return to public life, including work and social activities, after a week with judicious makeup.  For most, the pain and swelling will be gone after about two weeks.  This is a good time to plan your return to work and social activities.


• Recovery may take as long as 4-6 weeks. Over this time, you may still experience minor discomfort, maybe numbness, and your final look will become apparent. 

These recovery times are for traditional facelift surgery.  Endoscopic or S-lift surgeries will require shorter recovery times and have less in the way of bruising and/or pain.  And, of course, BOTOX® and injectable fillers, and PhotoRejuvenation have essentially no recovery time.
